Best Toronto Pumpkin Patch

The air is chilly and the leaves are changing which means it’s time to start searching for the perfect pumpkin! Whether it’s an accent piece for your fall decorations or a blank canvas for your jack-o-lantern, the perfect pumpkin can be hard to find if you’re limiting yourself to your local grocery store. If you are looking for a pumpkin patch near Toronto, there are so many great farms within a short drive from the city to find your choice gourd while supporting a local, family business.

Pumpkin patches are also a great socially distanced activity for the whole family! You can spend the day wandering the grounds without worrying about being too close to people outside of your bubble.

Who knew that dogs grow in pumpkin patches too?? (📷: @jordan.the.bully)

Hutchinson’s is a personal favourite of ours and we’ve never left empty-handed. You can either buy some of their pre-picked pumpkins up front or wander out into the field and find the one that speaks to you. They always have a variety of sizes, types, and other vegetables to inspire your autumn cooking.

You can currently find pumpkins, gourds, squash, garlic, beets, shallots, and leeks at Hutchinson’s which are all fresh and wonderfully priced. The grounds are large so you don’t have to worry about getting too close to other groups. It’s also a beautiful farm full of insta-worthy photo spots! Keep in mind they only accept cash & debit cards so be sure to bring one or the other.

Linton's Farm Market

Looking for something other than the typical orange pumpkin? If so, farms like Linton’s Farm Market are a must visit! This is Oshawa’s original farm market that has been serving the community for over 50 years. They’re famous for their fresh vegetables, jams, maple syrup, and even cheese! Now that fall is upon us, they have opened the U-Pick Pumpkin and Corn sections of the farm but they also have activities for the whole family.

Linton’s is well worth the drive to Oshawa and they’ll have you coming back every season to see what’s fresh. There is a lot of parking on site but we recommend getting there earlier rather than later to ensure you get a spot close to the entrance and have a lot of the grounds to yourself.

White pumpkins are PERFECT for painting! (📷: @chudleighsfarm)

Chances are you visited Chudleigh’s at least once on a primary school field trip if you went to school in the Western GTA – it was an annual trip at Mark’s school in Mississauga!

The farm is normally associated with its endless apple orchard but they have so much more to offer. Once autumn arrives, they add pumpkins and gourds as far as the eye can see! You’ll need to plan ahead and buy admission tickets before arriving to the farm, which costs $15. It is one of the more expensive farms on this list but there is so much to do during your visit beyond picking your prized pumpkin. There are hayrides, play areas for the kids, farm animals to visit, and a shop to purchase fresh baked pies.

You’ll need to purchase tickets ($5pp) before your visit if you want to pick your own apples and you’ll have 1hr to wander through the orchard. Head back to the main building to pick up your pumpkin on the way out or spend some time browsing their fresh farm market with pies and preserves for all tastes.

Albion Orchards

Albion Orchard
Bonus points if you can find a pumpkin bigger than you are! (📷: @cindeebaibee)

Having just re-opened in August, Albion Orchards is once again ready to welcome guests to their apple orchards and pumpkin patch! We recommend heading here sooner rather than later because they have decided to grow less pumpkins in 2020 but they have grown more squash and zucchini that you can pick up while you’re there. It is still well worth the trip to Caledon with the vast variety of food (both raw and cooked) on offer.

It’s also worth the trip in October so you can get the lay of the land and come back in December to cut your own Christmas tree. The trees at Albion have always been high quality but you’ll be at an advantage for visiting earlier and won’t have to walk around in the cold too much. We also recommend visiting their site for some delicious recipes and ideas for what to do with your fresh crop once you’ve brought it home.

Cooper’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Farm is unique in that they offer a subscription option to get an ongoing supply of their fresh produce and meat that comes straight from their grounds; it’s like having your own farm year-round!. They also produce their own maple syrup and have a massive 10-acre corn maze each fall. The maze boasts extra-wide corridors this year to help promote social distancing.

They also have a large pumpkin patch full of desirable gourds of all sizes. Prices are very reasonable with a pumpkin costing $4 each or $10 for 3. Admission is free on weekdays but you will need to purchase an admission ticket on weekends. You can also pre-order a bushel or half bushel of their produce and have it ready to pick-up when you arrive.
