What is Vallea Lumina Whistler?
Summing up Vallea Lumina Whistler is a tough task. Basically, it’s a nighttime hike that takes you through a light and sound show. The story begins at the trailhead and gradually unfolds as you work your way along the trail.
Mark was a little skeptical when we first booked our tickets. In his mind, it was just going to be a trail with some Christmas lights strung around. However, Vallea Lumina is so much more than that and he’s so happy we went!
This is going to be a spoiler-free article so we won’t get into specifics of the story. We don’t want to ruin it for you because uncovering this mystery is half the fun. It’s told in such a unique way that you’ll be excited to discover what’s around the next corner.
Where is Vallea Lumina Whistler?
Vallea Lumina is located off of Highway 99 North of Whistler Village. Keep your eyes peeled for Cougar Mountain Road which will lead you to where you need to be. The total drive takes about 15 minutes from the South End of the village.
There is ample parking on site but it can get hectic. It’s an open dirt patch without official parking spots. However, staff is onsite doing a great job of herding cars.
Vallea Lumina Times and Tickets
Vallea Lumina Whistler is quite popular so we recommend reserving your tickets early. Showtimes vary by season with specific times for entry so check the website for the date you want. Since it’s a multimedia and light show, it only operates after sundown.
You can visit the Vallea Lumina Whistler website to reserve your spot. They are pretty strict about showing up at your designated time and there are no refunds so choose carefully. If you’re too late or decide you don’t want to go then you’ll forfeit what you’ve paid.
Tickets range from $29.99 CAD for adults (16+) in winter to $34.99 in summer. Vallea Lumina is open all year, rain or shine, except for a few maintenance weeks in April and November.
How Long is Vallea Lumina Whistler?
The Vallea Lumina trail changes length depending on the season. In summer, it is a 1.5km (0.9mi) semi-levelled path with some hills and staircases. This changes in winter to a 1km fairly flat walkway to account for the snowy conditions.
The entire experience will take you about an hour from start to finish. It can take more time depending on how long you stop to appreciate each snippet of the story. We finished the trail in just over an hour because we took our time and stopped for photos.
Vallea Lumina FAQ
Is Vallea Lumina Good for Kids?
Yes! The trail is overall very easy but there are a number of stairs. If your youngster is OK with a bit of a walk then they will be fine. They do not allow strollers on the trail so plan accordingly. We also didn’t notice any accessible facilities while we were there.
The story itself might be a little intricate for younger travellers. However, the lights, decorations, and music will still delight them!
Is the Vallea Lumina trail accessible?
Unfortunately, this attraction is not suitable for those with mobility issues. The trail is undulating with several staircases.
Is Food and Drink Available?
There is a small cafe on site serving drinks and snacks. We wouldn’t recommend it for a full dinner but there is enough if you’re feeling peckish.
Alcohol is not aloud on the grounds so don’t expect a beer or cocktail. Think more snack bar than restaurant.
What Should I Wear?
Vallea Lumina Whistler takes place rain or shine so dress for the weather. It’s best to wear comfortable shoes in summer and insulated, gripped shoes/boots in winter.
Pets at Vallea Lumina
Although it’s an open-air trail, pets aren’t allowed at Vallea Lumina Whistler.
Is Vallea Lumina Whistler Worth It?
It might seem pricey to pay $30 for an hour-long walk but Vallea Lumina Whistler is so much more than that! It truly is a fully-immersive storytelling experience unlike anything we’ve seen before. In our opinion, it’s well worth the price of admission.
There’s something about being surrounded by forest that helps the story come to life. Your curiosity is piqued the entire way until you reach the final chapter. This should be high on your list of things to do in Whistler!
